Quick Tip: Using the Image Gallery

One of the great new features of Mahara 1.5 is the ability to display a group of related photos through an image gallery.

Users can choose three different types of image galleries. The first two display the gallery via thumbnails. The first style option will display photos as thumbnails in their native layout (horizontal or vertical).

The second style option will display photos as thumbnails and will adjust the layout to make the photos square.

Note that this option will distort the photo in order to make the thumbnail square. However, when clicking on an individual photo in the gallery, it will display the native dimensions and size.

The third option will display photos as a slideshow with arrows that allow users to scroll through all of the photos within the gallery.

Depending on the page layout and the width of the photo, the scroll through arrow can disappear unless the columns and photos are sized correctly. It is recommended that users use no more than three columns on the ePortfolio page layout when using the image gallery. If using two or three columns, be sure to size them at equal widths or place the gallery in the larger column.

For two equal columns, the image width should be no more than “490.” For three equal columns, the image width should be no more than “310.”
